Independent Meditation Center Guide

""Karma," he [Buddha] often said, "is intention": i.e., a movement of the mind that occurs each time we think, speak, or act. By being mindful of this process, we come to understand how intentions lead to habitual patterns of behavior, which in turn affect the quality of our experience."
Stephen Batchelor, Buddhism Without Beliefs.

Center's Description
The Northfield Buddhist Meditation Center's mission is to create a spiritual community rooted in the Buddhist tradition that provides a nurturing and supportive environment for meditative practice. The Center aims to (1.) Offer opportunities and resources for study in all Buddhist traditions, (2.) Foster meaningful involvement in an inclusive and welcoming community, and (3.) Practice decision-making in a way that is consistent with Buddhist practice.

The group welcomes anyone interested in meditating, regardless of religious background. Often practice centers will engage in one particular type of Buddhist practice, but our group is eclectic. We have meditators from the Tibetan, Zen and Theravadin traditions and some who follow no particular tradition. We have found that such variety creates a healthy diversity.
