| Zenshuji Soto Mission in Los Angeles was the first Sotoshu Zen Temple established in North America. It was established in 1922 by founder Reverend Hosen Isobe. Over the years Zenshuji grew in membership, expanded its scope of activites, and eventually became the North American Headquarters of Sotoshu and a direct branch of Eiheiji and Sojiji, the two head temples in Japan.
The temple provides opportunities to develop Buddhism through the practice of Zazen and participation in weekly services and monthly Buddhism classes. Further, the temple offers many opportunities to explore Japanese culture through Buddhism by teaching a variety of activites including Taiko Drumming (Zendeko), Tea Ceremony, Shakyo (calligraphy), Japanese Language, and Terakoya Kid's School. |
