| The Zen Center of New York City, also known as Fire Lotus Temple, the city branch of Zen Mountain Monastery, is a Zen training center for lay students and male and female monastics. Fire Lotus is dedicated to providing support for lay practitioners in the New York City area through six days of weekly sitting meditations, monthly meditation intensives led by ZCNYC Spiritual Director Bonnie Myotai Treace, Sensei or by senior monastics and lay students, and one-day workshops in related practices.
Location: Located near the Brooklyn Academy of Music at 500 State Street in Brooklyn, the Fire Lotus Temple is within three blocks of most subway lines and very easily accessible. Fire Lotus Temple can provide an excellent introduction to the practice and principles of Zen Buddhism, and serve as a supportive environment in which to develop one's zazen practice. The activities at the temple are particularly suited to the daily challenges of lay practitioners living in the city, offering a quiet setting in which to study one's life. The temple is open to anyone genuinely interested in exploring and practicing Zen Buddhism — those new to Zen or meditation practice, as well as more experienced practitioners. |
