Center's Description
The Brazos Buddhist Association is a non-sectarian group practicing in a variety of Buddhist traditions, including Insight, Zen and Tibetan. We meet regularly for group meditations and cooperatively sponsor visiting teachers from all schools of Buddhism.

Our goal is to create a community for meditators who are interested in Buddhism, whether they adhere to the views of one tradition or want to learn from teachers with various backgrounds. A number of us are committed to specific practices and teachers, but we maintain an open, respectful environment where each practitioner can find or stay true to his or her path. As a group, we keep ritual to a minimum and sit in silence to provide a space where we can support each other in meditation.

Visiting teachers offer us the opportunity to study philosophies and practices that are common to all Buddhist traditions as well as instructions that may be unique to specific schools. Our group does not attempt to synthesize or promote these different views, only to make them available for interested students. Teachers typically give dharma talks at different times than our group meditations. Everyone is welcome to attend either the silent sits, the talks, or both.
