Center's Description
The Springfield Sangha has come together to strengthen the Buddhist practice and knowledge of its members and to help introduce basic Buddhist beliefs to those who inquire. We sit together, without a teacher, seeking to learn from each other through our meditation, reading, discussion, participation in retreats, visits with teachers, and fellowship in the Dharma. We respect and support one another as we travel our path with wakefulness. We cultivate our compassion for--and awareness of--the suffering that exists in our midst through engaged acts of local charity and benefit for all life. We seek to recognize the Buddha within each person we meet.

While much of our focus is on the Mindfulness tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, we welcome practitioners and open our minds to teachings from all traditions of Buddhism. We see no conflict between our practice and that of the many other great faiths of mankind and we welcome Christians and others who find benefit from fellowship with us. We participate in our circle with diverse backgrounds, representing several traditions of Buddhism, as well as differences in race, age, ability and disability, social class, educational level, financial means, and sexual orientation. We embrace our diversity, and celebrate its presence and power to bring the full meaning of the Dharma into our lives, practice, and the present moment. All persons are welcome, and those who return to practice with us are invited into membership.

We meet each Tuesday at 5:30 P.M. at the United Ministries Center on SMSU campus in Springfield, MO. We welcome new people and are happy to explain how we practice.
