Center's Description
The Knoxville Interfaith Meditation Group meets weekly to provide an opportunity to practice meditation with others. We do not have a teacher, although we sometimes sponsor retreat days led by visiting teachers. Our orientation is mainly Buddhist, since many of our members have studied with Buddhist teachers from various traditions. However, everyone is welcome regardless of previous experience or religious affiliation.

We sit in silent meditation for 40 minutes, during which each person is free to choose the technique (or lack of it) that he or she finds suitable. After the meditation period, we generally read a short passage from a book or magazine and then discuss it. We close with a very short meditation period of about five minutes.

Through the practice of meditation we hope to deepen our compassion and our awareness of self and world. We welcome everyone, experienced practitioners as well as those who would like to explore meditation but aren't sure if it's for them.

The group meets Thursday evenings from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Church of the Savior, 934 N. Weisgarber Road, Knoxville.
